Pan Atlantic Foundation is looking for a community-minded Area Representative based in Valparaiso, Indiana , to help international high school students find welcoming host families, connect with local schools, and become part of their new communities.

This opportunity extends throughout Northwest Indiana , including Chesterton, Crown Point, Michigan City, La Porte, and surrounding communities.

From the shores of Lake Michigan and the Indiana Dunes to vibrant downtown districts, local festivals, high school sports, and close-knit neighborhoods, Northwest Indiana offers international students plenty of opportunities to discover American life beyond the classroom.

We're looking for someone who enjoys meeting people, building relationships, exploring community opportunities, and helping young people create memories that last a lifetime.

You don't need to have experience in international exchange. You need the willingness to connect with people and help bring the world to your community.

What You'll Actually Do

Find Families Who Want to Share Their World

You'll introduce local families to the opportunity to host an international exchange student and help them navigate the process.

Your responsibilities may include:

• Sharing hosting opportunities through social media, community connections, and local events.
• Connecting with families interested in learning about international exchange.
• Meeting with prospective host families and explaining program expectations.
• Conducting required host family interviews and helping complete the approval process.
• Maintaining positive relationships with approved host families.
• Helping families feel prepared and supported throughout the exchange experience.

You don't need a huge network on day one. You need the willingness to start conversations and build relationships throughout your community.

Build Relationships With Local High Schools

Strong school partnerships are essential to successful student placements. You'll help identify schools that are interested in welcoming international students and build relationships with the people who make those opportunities possible.

You may:

• Connect with high school principals, counselors, administrators, coaches, and other school personnel.
• Introduce international exchange opportunities to local schools.
• Identify schools willing to consider exchange student placements.
• Help coordinate school approval and enrollment.
• Maintain relationships with schools throughout your territory.
• Explore opportunities for students to participate in sports, clubs, school events, and extracurricular activities.

Help Students Experience Northwest Indiana

An exchange year should be about more than attending school. It's about discovering a new culture, meeting people, and becoming part of a community.

Northwest Indiana has plenty to offer, and you'll help students and host families discover local opportunities such as:

• Exploring Indiana Dunes National Park and Indiana Dunes State Park , with their beaches, hiking trails, and spectacular Lake Michigan scenery.
• Enjoying the waterfront, local restaurants, and seasonal activities around Michigan City .
• Discovering the shops, restaurants, and community events in downtown Valparaiso .
• Exploring the parks, trails, and outdoor recreation available throughout Chesterton and the surrounding Duneland area .
• Experiencing local festivals, farmers markets, concerts, and seasonal celebrations.
• Attending high school sporting events and community activities.
• Discovering the history, attractions, and local businesses of Crown Point and La Porte .
• Connecting with libraries, youth organizations, volunteer opportunities, and civic groups.
• Enjoying day trips and regional attractions throughout Northwest Indiana.

The region offers an appealing mix of Lake Michigan recreation, outdoor adventures, local traditions, school spirit, and welcoming communities that can help international students feel at home.

Be a Local Resource for International Students

Once a student arrives, you'll help support a successful exchange experience for both the student and their host family.

Responsibilities may include:

• Welcoming students and helping them get connected to their new community.
• Maintaining regular communication with students and host families.
• Completing required supervision visits and check-ins.
• Encouraging students to participate in school and community activities.
• Helping students and host families work through everyday questions or concerns.
• Communicating significant concerns to Pan Atlantic Foundation staff.
• Helping ensure students feel supported, safe, and included throughout their exchange.

You won't be expected to handle everything alone. Pan Atlantic Foundation provides training, resources, and ongoing team support.

• Interested in cultural exchange and helping young people succeed.
• Willing to become involved in local schools and community organizations.
• Comfortable traveling throughout the assigned territory as needed.

Experience in education, recruiting, coaching, customer service, sales, youth programs, nonprofit work, hospitality, counseling, community organizations, or civic leadership may be helpful.

Previous international exchange experience is not required. Training and ongoing support are provided.

A Part-Time Opportunity That Doesn't Feel Like a Desk Job

This isn't a traditional 9-to-5 position.

The schedule offers flexibility around your existing career, family, and personal commitments, while allowing you to make a meaningful contribution in your community.

One week, you might meet with a prospective host family. Another week, you could connect with a school counselor, check in with a student, or attend a local community event.

Some responsibilities can be completed from home, while others involve meeting with families, visiting schools, and supporting students locally.

Your activity level will vary depending on student placements, school calendars, host family recruitment, and student needs.

It's a role built around relationships, flexibility, initiative, and community involvement.

Compensation & Opportunity

• $1,000 per successful student placement
• Flexible, part-time independent contractor position.
• 1099 contractor classification.
• Placement-based compensation; no hourly wage or salaried base.
• Opportunities to earn international travel experiences through applicable program incentives.
• Training and ongoing support from Pan Atlantic Foundation.

Your success will depend on your ability to develop school partnerships, recruit and support host families, and create opportunities for international students in your community.

Your Northwest Indiana Territory

The primary hiring location is Valparaiso, Indiana , with recruitment and student support opportunities extending throughout the surrounding region.

Target communities include:

• Valparaiso — Primary regional hub.
• Chesterton — Duneland-area schools and surrounding communities.
• Crown Point — A growing community with schools, family networks, and local organizations.
• Michigan City — Lake Michigan communities and schools throughout the area.
• La Porte — Local schools and surrounding smaller communities.
• Additional surrounding towns and school districts throughout Northwest Indiana, as appropriate.

The focus is on developing relationships with local high schools and potential host families across the region , rather than limiting outreach to one city.

We're especially interested in candidates who have connections with schools, youth organizations, sports programs, civic groups, parent networks, businesses, churches, or other community organizations.

You don't have to live in Valparaiso itself. Candidates based in or near the surrounding target communities are encouraged to apply.

An established network is helpful, but the willingness to build one is what matters.

Minimum Requirements

• Must be able to successfully complete required background screening.
• Must complete Pan Atlantic Foundation training.
• Must obtain the required U.S. Department of State certification for the applicable exchange program role.
• Must be comfortable working independently and managing responsibilities.
• Must have dependable communication and follow-through.
• Must be able to meet with students, families, and school contacts locally as needed.
• Must have reliable transportation for community outreach and student support.
